Mujibur Rahman, father of a stalking victim madrasa student, of Dungsri village in Dakshin Surma upazila has remained traceless since he went missing on Friday night. "On Friday evening, criminals assaulted my husband Mujibur Rahman, 70, and son Abdullah when they were returning home from the bazaar. Since then Mujibur has remained missing. The kidnappers might have killed him," Hawarunnesa, the victim's wife, said on Tuesday evening. "I do not know what is in store for us. None among the villagers are coming to help us. We are passing sleepless nights. Police officers visited us and just asked some questions," she said. Hawarunnessa filed a case with Dakshin Surma Police Station accusing 11 people including Shahabuddin, Shamsuddin and Sadique of the same village on charge of kidnapping Mujibur. "We do not have any news about my father since he went missing on Friday evening. Shahabuddin, Shamsuddin, Al-Amin, Noman and Saju used to tease me on my way to Jalalpur madrasah, five kilometres off my house. The villagers know it well, but none protested. Rather they became furious as my father and brother raised the matter with the village leaders," said Taslima. Taslima, who also attended classes at a computer training centre at Zindabazar in Sylhet city, said she has recently stopped going to the madrasah and the computer training centre due to the situation. Taslima's family members alleged that the stalkers got annoyed as Taslima's father Mujibur and brother Abdullah protested their evil act and lodged a complaint with the village leaders and UP chairman. A local arbitration was held three weeks ago when village leaders asked Mujibur to sign on a plain sheet of paper. As he declined, the group went angry and blamed Mujibur and his son for 'not obeying the decision of the arbitration'. Since then they had been threatening the family to leave the village, the family members alleged. As Taslima took a motorcycle lift by a man of her neighbouring village while returning from the city after attending class in the computer training centre, the group blamed Taslima and made it an issue. "We sought apology to the village leaders for our daughter's wrongdoing promising that there will be no repetition of such a thing but they ignored us. We are not getting support from anybody in the village as we are poor," Hawarunnesa said. Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Abu Syed Mohammad Hashim visited the spot on Sunday and talked to the family members of Mujibur Rahman and villagers. The Officer-in-Charge of Dakshin Surma Police Station Iqbal Hayat said, "We are trying to trace out Mujibur. The allegation of eve teasing is yet to be established."
