Baby abducted from Dhaka rescued in Bagerhat, 2 held
Bagerhat police in a raid yesterday rescued a two and a half years old girl child from Hatirabad village under Batiaghata upazila in Khulna district within 17 hours of her abduction from Dhaka for Tk 15 lakh ransom.
Acting on a tip off Fakirhat police with the cooperation of Batiaghata police raided Hatirabad village at around 11 am and rescued the girl Ananya. Police also arrested two of the abductors.
Ananya's father garments businessman Md Rashed of Kabutarpara village under Shubhadda union of Keraniganj upazila in Dhaka was also with police during the raid.
The two arrested abductors are Mobarak Hossain, 25, son of Idris Ali Sheikh of Rakhalgachhi village under same union in Bagerhat Sadar upazila and Raihan Sheikh, 26, son of Sheikh Jasim uddin of Hosskhali village under Hatiya upazila of Noakhali district.
Ananya's father Md Rashed told this correspondent that arrested Mobarak and Raihan were employees of Ananya Washing Factory owned by him. They had access to his house.
Rashed said the two criminals went to his house Monday afternoon and took his wife Rina Begum's permission to take the baby out for a stroll. As the two did not return with Ananya for long Rina informed the matter to her husband over phone.
Rashed managed to reach Mobarak over his cell phone after several attempts and Mobarak demanded Tk 15 lakh as ransom for returning Ananya.
Rashed filed an abduction case with Keraniganj PS against Mobarak and Raihan.
Rashed said Mobarak asked him to come to Jugikhali Bridge on Khulna-Mongla highway in Katakhali area of Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat district taking Tk 15 lakh with him yesterday morning.
Rashed reached Bagerhat early morning yesterday and requested Fakirhat police and Rab-6 in Khulna to rescue his daughter. Later police in a raid rescued the baby.
Fakirhat police station sub-inspector SM Feroz who led the raid told this correspondent yesterday noon that police rescued the girl from Mobarak's aunt's house in Hatirabad village.
The two arrested criminals are now under Fakirhat police custody and they will be handed over to Keraniganj police, SM Feroz said.
