Two Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders backed by two ward councillors of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) have allegedly grabbed a bank official's ten acres of land at Krishnanagar Mouja under Batiaghata upazila of Khulna district. The two ward councillors -- Sheikh Ali Akbar Tipu of ward No-25, and ZA Mahmud Don of ward No-29 of KCC belong to the Khulna city unit of ruling Awami League. "Chhatra Dal leaders Aslam Shikder and his younger brother Hannan Shikder grabbed the ten acres of land on September 15 after demolishing some semi pucca houses that I had built after purchasing the land," Abdul Hannan, manager of Jhenidah branch of Shilpa Bank, said in a general diary (GD) lodged with Batiaghata Police Station. "Over a hundred ruling party activists hired by the two brothers went there by a truck and a few motorcycles. Some of them carried arms. Backed by the two ward councillors, they grabbed the land," Hannan Khan said in the GD. The grabbers hung a signboard there in the name of 'Shikder Housing Project', the banker said, adding that AL activists who stormed the land include extremists Shahid, Zakir and Bappi, suspects in ward councillor Shahid Iqbal Bithar murder case. "I had purchased the land in 1994. But I am now locked in litigation with a businessman of Khulna city over possession of a part of the land. The matter is now under trial in a civil court," Hannan added. He said police failed to take quick action against the grabbers after he filed a GD with Batiaghata police station in this connection. Denying the allegation of their involvement in grabbing the land, the two ward councillors said they have been implicated in the false allegation to defame their political reputation. Batiaghata Police Station Officer in Charge Moniruzzaman Molla said the allegation of the landowner is now under investigation.
