<i>Stalker severely beats up schoolgirl in Thakurgaon</i>

A stalker beat up a schoolgirl in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila on Monday as she refused to accept his marriage proposal Bilkis Begum,12, a class-VII student of Laututhi Girls' High School in the upazila, is now undergoing treatment at Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital. Victim's father Hamidur Rahaman told this correspondent yesterday that Hazrat Ali, 22, son of Abdul Aziz of Laututhi village, has been stalking his daughter on way to school for the last six months. Hamidur said he had earlier informed Hazrat Ali's father Abdul Aziz, local union parishad member Harun-ur-Rashid and headmaster of Laututhi Girls' High School Fazlul Haque of the matter, but to no effect. When Bilkis was alone at their house at around 6:00pm on Monday. Stalker Hazrat Ali entered the house and told Bilkis that he wanted to marry her. "As my daughter refused his proposal, the stalker beat her severely and also tried to violate her," Hamidur alleged. Neighbours said Hamidur returned home at around 6:45pm and saw his daughter lying in an unconscious state. He first took her daughter to a village doctor and then to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital. No case was filed with Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station in connection with the incident as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday Replying to a query, Hamidur told this correspondent that stalker's family was putting pressure on him to settle the matter through arbitration.
