Body of young man found, 3 still missing

Body of a missing ferry boat passenger was recovered from Padma River near Kumarbhog in Louhajong upazila Sunday. The deceased was identified as Sheikh Maniruzzaman, 25, a small trader and son of Harunur Rasid of Banaripara upazila in Barisal. Police said locals found the body in the river and informed them. Later, they recovered it from the south bank of the river near Kumarbhog in the afternoon. Harunur Rashid received his son's body and took him to their village home. The ferry boat carrying 11 passengers including Maniruzzaman and his mother Rehana Begum from Kawrakandi capsized after it collided with a pontoon at Mawa ferry ghat No. 2 Thursday afternoon. Of them, eight were rescued and four others went missing in the accident. Three other passengers are still missing. In Sylhet, two people went missing after two boats capsized in the river Surma Sunday afternoon near Kazirbazar ferry ghat area in the city. The victims are Inu Miah, 40, of Khozarkhola of south Surma and Shahabuddin, 35, of Gowainghat upazila. Assistant Director of the Fire Service, Sylhet Parimol Chandra Kundu told The Daily Star correspondent that a small boat capsized while ferrying a few people at 3:45 pm while the other one capsized while returning from a boat race near Keane bridge at 4:15 pm.
