Students block highway
Students of Kazi Shafiqul Islam College blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet highway yesterday morning as a bus knocked down a girl student of the college at Islampur in Bijoynagar upazila, disrupting traffic movement for two and half hours. Witnesses said the Dhaka bound speeding bus knocked down Shila Rani, 16, a first year student of the college at 8am. She was rushed to Dhaka in critical condition. Being enraged by the incident the students of the college put up barricade on the road at 8:30am halting traffic movement on the busy road. The students withdrew the barricade at 11am when deputy commissioner and police superintendent rushed to the spot and assured them of taking necessary action in this connection.
