Robbers loot church, beat up priests

Robbers looted cash and valuables from a church at Ruhia village under Sadar upazila early yesterday. Police and locals said a gang of 15/20 armed robbers, wearing masks, entered the local catholic church premises at about 1:30am and tied up hands and legs of two night guards. Then they entered the rooms of the fathers by breaking grills of the building and looted Tk. 1 lakh 40 thousand and other valuables including two mobile phone sets and a video camera. The robbers also beat up Father Robi Rozario and Father Prodip Mardy tying them up with ropes. Contacted, officer-in-charge of Thakurgaon police station Gopal Chakraborty said, police were trying to trace out the criminals. He hoped that the criminals would be nabbed within short time. A case was filed with the police station in this connection. In Laxmipur robbers looted valuables worth Tk 20lakh from a house at Chorolrenge village in Komolnagar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB. Police said, a gang of robbers numbering 14/15 entered into the house of Hazi Nurunnabi, breaking open the collapsible gate of the house in the early morning and took the house members hostage at gunpoint. Later they looted valuables including 13 tolas of gold ornaments, cash Tk 5lakh and five mobile phone sets worth Tk 20lakh and decamped safely.
