A drug addict was killed allegedly by another addict on Saturday near Bonpara mission market in Boraigram upazila of Natore, reports UNB. Police and locals said Mozdar, 32, and Delwar, 30, of the area were taking drugs at a mango orchard near the market at about 2pm. Later, an altercation ensued between them over a trifling matter and at one stage Delwar stabbed Mozdar indiscriminately leaving him dead on the spot. Locals caught Delwar and handed him over to police. In Munshiganj, a drug peddler was hacked to death by his rivals in Panchshar Itkhola area of the district town Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Omar Shikder, 30, son of Mollik Shikder of village Natungaon in Sadar upazila. Police said, Omar was engaged in drug peddling in the town since long and accused in a number of criminal cases. Local people said a gang of criminals led by rival drug peddler Arif hacked Omar with sharp weapons leaving him seriously injured at about 9:30pm. He was rushed to Munshiganj General Hospital in critical condition. Later, he died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. According to a correspondent, a procession was brought out in Munshiganj town yesterday claiming that Omar was a Jubo League activist. Omar's father Md Safar Shikder filed a case with Sadar police station accusing five people including Arif of killing Omar. However, organising secretary of local Awami League, also former Jubo League president Md Jamal Hossain, refuting the claim by the processionists yesterday said the move to identify Omar as a Jubo League worker was nothing but a conspiracy to tarnish the image of the ruling party. OC of Sadar police station Md. Sultan said that the drive was on to arrest the killers of Omar.
