10 injured as transport workers clash
At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two groups of transport workers at Kurua bazaar in Sreebordi upazila Friday noon.
Of the injured, Babul Mia, 28, Aslam Iqbal, 34, Rana, 6, Nazrul Islam Tota, 25, Asad, 18, were admitted at Sreebordi and Sadar hospitals.
Locals said there was a longstanding dispute between members of Sherpur District Auto-tempo Leguna Drivers Union and Sherpur District Auto-tempo, Auto rickshaw Drivers Union over collecting tolls from tempo, CNG-run auto-rickshaw and other small vehicles.
The clash ensued as one group of transport workers led by Billal, Liton and Rajib attacked their opponent group of Feroz and Rubel at about 1pm at the bazaar.
At one stage the feuding groups also ransacked 10 shops at the bazaar.
