Robbers killed one person while looting his house in Comilla yesterday while four of a gang were held and arms recovered from their possession in Noakhali on Thursday.
A house owner was killed and five other members of his family were injured as armed robbers stormed into the house and looted valuables at Perul village in Sadar Dakkhin upazila of Comilla early yesterday.
UNB quoting police said, a gang of robbers stormed into the house of Ajit Barun Roy and looted valuables including Tk 40,000 in cash, five tolas of gold and a mobile phone set keeping the house members hostage at gunpoint.
At one stage, the gang beat up Ratan and Jatan, two sons of the house owner mercilessly and stabbed Ajit to death as they tried to resist them.
Hearing the hue and cry locals rushed to the spot. Sensing danger, the robbers opened fire on them, leaving Sujan, Bijoy, Moron and Jatin injured and left the place safely with booties.
In Noakhali, Companyganj police arrested four robbers and recovered a light machine-gun (LG) and other lethal weapons from their possession in Kojarghat area under the upazila early Thursday.
The arrestees were identified as gang leader Jahirul, 38, Billal, 30, Mainuddin, 28, and Jasim Uddin, 25, reports a correspondent.
Officer-in-charge Companyganj PS Md Jasim Uddin said, on Wednesday midnight, acting on a tip-off, he along with his team conducted a drive in Kojarghat area and cordoned the whole area while the robbers were taking preparation to commit a robbery and arrested those robbers from the spot in the early hours of Thursday.
Two separate cases were lodged with Companyganj police station in this connection.
