War crimes tribunal team in Mymensingh

A four-member team of International Crimes Tribunal yesterday visited different killing grounds in Mymensingh and talked to local people to gather information and evidence about the crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War. The team headed by its prosecutor (administration) Jeyad Al Malum visited the killing grounds at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Zila Parishad Rest House on the bank of the Brahmaputra River, in Shaheb Quarter Park area, Chhoto Bazar in the town, Deuha Khola and Armed Police Battalion Camp at Muktagachha uazila headquarters. On Wednesday night, the team members exchanged views with the family members of martyred freedom fighters, civil society members and local journalists at Mymensingh Circuit House. Local political leaders, high officials of the district administration were present at the meeting. After visiting the killing ground at Shaheb Quarter Park area yesterday, prosecutor (administration) Jeyad Al Malum told reporters that those who committed crimes against humanity would be tried. "We talked to the relatives of the victims to gather information about the crimes against humanity," Jeyad Al Malum said. He urged the members of the civil society, public representatives and freedom fighters to help the team investigate the crimes against humanity. Principal Motiur Rahman told reporters that local collaborators of Pak army used Zila Parishad Rest House as their camp and many innocent people, including women and freedom fighters, were tortured and killed under the leadership of Jamaat leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, the then leader of Islami Chhatra Sangha Mymensingh district unit. He said the then Muslim League leader MA Hannan, Tayeb Ali, chairman Mahbubur Rahman Fakir, Rajob Ali Fakir, advocate Shamsuddin Ahmed (Suraj Ukil), Chand, Suraj and Rabbani were the collaborators of the Pakistani occupation forces. They caught innocent people and freedom fighters from different areas of the greater Mymensingh and killed them. The team also visited Sherpur district to gather evidence against Jamaat leader Kamaruzzaman.
