Robbery at Gazipur, villagers catch 7 in two districts
Robbers looted cash and valuables worth Tk 2 lakh from two houses at village Kotbazalia in Kapasia upazila early Wednesday.
Police quoting local people said a gang of 12/13 armed robbers entered the house of Ayub Ali Khalifa breaking open the door at about 1am and looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Tk 1.50 lakh, confining the house members at gunpoint.
Later, the gang stormed into the neighboring house of Hazrat Ali and looted gold ornaments and other valuables worth Tk 50,000.
Another report from Laxmipur adds: Local people caught three robbers while they were preparing to commit a robbery at a house at Rahimpur village in Sadar upazila Tuesday night.
Acting on secret information, villagers surrounded the robbers at midnight and after a hot chase rounded up three of them identified as Nur Alam, Jahangir Hossain and Didarul Alam while others managed to flee.
After a good beating they were handed over to local police station.
In Magura, four robbers were arrested while preparing to commit robbery at a house at Gashiara village in Sripur upazila on Tuesday night.
The arrestees were identified as Ibrahim, 34, Babul, 30, Barun Bala, 35, Abdul Jabbar, 30. They hailed from Gopalganj and Madaripur districts.
Police said locals surrounded a gang of robbers while they were preparing to commit robbery at the house of Ayub Member at dead of night.
As the gang was fleeing the scene locals after a hot chase caught four of them along with sharp weapons.
Later, they were handed over to police after mass beating.
