College girl, 4 others commit 'suicide'
A college girl and four others allegedly committed suicide in Thakurgaon and Satkhira districts in the last three days.
A college girl allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday night at Gowalpara in Thakurgaon town over a family feud, reports our correspondent.
Deceased was Shirin Akhter Ria, 20, was daughter of Kalu Mia of the village and second year student of Thakurgaon Government College.
Locals and family sources said at about 8:30pm on the day the girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her room.
The incident followed a feud with other family members, they said.
Sensing something wrong, family members broke open the door and took the hapless girl to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
In another incident, a gram (community) police committed suicide on Monday night at Bachore village under Ranishankoil upazila of the district.
Police said Komol Mohon, 22, son of late Kancho Mohon, killed himself by hanging from a beam in his room.
In Satkhira, three people including a housewife allegedly committed suicide yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The deceased are Jyotsna Rani Sarkar, 25, wife of Asim Kumar Sarkar of village Paikpara in Debhata upazila, Sultan Sardar, 35, son of Khadem Ali Sardar of village Gobindakati in Sadar upazila and Ashraf Hossain, 22, son of Ador Ali Gazi of village Abadchandipur in Shyamnagar upazila.
Quoting locals police said, Jyotsna Rani took poison following a family feud.
Sultan Sardar borrowed Tk 2 lakh from five NGOs. As he was unable to pay the installments of the loan regularly, he took poison early yesterday morning and died.
Ashraf Hossain had been suffering from various diseases for the last three years.
Being failed to bear the pain in his chest he took poison yesterday.
He was taken to Shyamnagar upazila health complex where he died in the afternoon.
