Lightning kills 7 in three districts

Lightning has killed seven people and injured at least 22 others in Kurigram, Magura and Nilphamari districts. Lightning killed one person and injured three others in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram yesterday, reports our correspondent. The deceased was identified as Shohag Ali Sohel, 30, son of Khorshed Alam of village Abdul Hakim under Ulipur Municipality of the district. According to police, at about 1:30pm a thunderbolt stuck Sohel on the yard of his house. He died on the spot. His friends Lablu, Sumon, and Rani were also injured by lightning as all of them were bathing in rain. In Magura, a man was killed and four others were injured as thunderbolt stuck them while washing jute during rain at Boroichara village in Shalikha upazila yesterday. The victim was identified as Bilash Biswas, 45, of the village, reports UNB. It was raining heavily accompanied by frequent lightning and thunderbolts in the upazila. Thunderbolts left Bilash killed on the spot and badly injured Oshim Biswas, 35, Abujh Biswas, 30, Sujut Biswas, 32 and Anuj Majumder. In Nilphamari, five people were killed and and 15 others were injured by thunderbolts in different upazilas in the district on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Majida Begum, 38, of Dangapara village in sadar upazila, Hali Begum, 42, of Athiabari village of Domar upazila, Parul Begum, 30, of Botlagari village in Syedpur upazila and Hesa Masud, 25, of Ghonpara village in Kunduoukur in the district. All of them died on the spot as lightning stuck them during a storm. The injured were rushed to Rangpur Medical Collage and Hospital and Sadar hospital in critical condition.
