At least four people including an outlawed party activist were killed at Chatmohar, Santhia, Atghoria and Santhia upazilas during the Eid vacation.
Meanwhile police arrested a 'regional leader' of outlawed PBCP Janajudhha faction night before the Eid-ul-Fitr.
The deceased were identified as Md. Rakibullah, 25, an outlawed activist of village Keshabpur Baulaghata in Chatmohar upazila, Md. Shafique Uddin, 24, a driver of three-wheeler Kariman of village Goyashpur in Atghoria upazila, Md. Shafikul Islam, 22, of village Paikarihat in Santhia upazila and Khairunnesa, 45, a housewife of village Sharabaria in Ishwardi upazila under the district.
Sub Inspector (SI) Md. Siraj Uddin of Chatmohar police station said a gunfight between two rival factions of outlaws occurred at Sharatganje Bazar of Chatmohar upazila about 9:30pm on Friday.
Md. Rakibullah, an operative of an outlawed party was killed during the gunfight, the SI said.
Police arrested Md. Bakul Hossain, 25, a suspected criminal with a shutter gun from the spot.
Sub Inspector Abdur Rouf of Atghoria police station said police recovered the decomposed body of Shafique Uddin, a Kariman driver from Shonahata water body of the upazila at about 10 on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
He was missing from his residence for three days, police said. Criminals abducted and killed him and dumped the body in the water body, police believe.
Officer-in-charge of Santhia police station Md. Robiul Islam said that the criminals hacked shallow machine operative Shafikul Islam on September 9 morning over the past enmity.
Critically hurt he was taken to Santhia upazila health complex where died in the afternoon.
Meanwhile police said a man beat his mother-in-law Kharinnesa dead at her residence at village Shorabaria in Ishwardi upazila on Thursday.
Hasnat Ali beat her mercilessly allegedly for not getting expected Eid gift, police said.
In another incident, Ataikula police arrested Md. Abdul Hakim, 42, a 'regional leader' of outlawed PBCP Janajudhha faction from the village Goashbari on Friday night.
Officer-in-charge of Ataikula police station Md. Sirajul Islam said, acting on a tip-off, a team arrested him from his village.
Hakim, son of Nazir Uddin of Goashbari village is also accused in 12 murder cases, the OC said.
