Motorcade of MP attacked, 10 injured

At least seven people were injured as an unidentified gang attacked lawmaker Engineer Fazlul Azim's motorcade in Hatia yesterday afternoon. Azim, independent lawmaker from Noakhali-6 (Hatia) constituency, was going to Hatia from Maijdee to distribute zakat items among the poor. When Azim's motorcade reached chairman ghat at around 11:00, a gang of 25 to 30 attacked his supporters, leaving six of them injured. They also damaged two vehicles and prevented Azim and his supporters from boarding a sea-truck. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The lawmaker later reached his home at Uchkhali in Hatia. The injured are lawmaker's son Farhan Azim, personal assistant Afsaruddin, APS Zakir, Khondaker Abul Kalam, Mahbub and Himel. They were admitted to Hatia Upazila Health Complex. Lawmaker Fazlul Azim blamed the supporters of former lawmaker and Awami League leader Mohammad Ali for the incident. Mohammad Ali denied the allegation. Mohammad Ali alleged that Fazlul Azim's supporters ransacked Boarchar Awami League office on Tuesday and beat up Jubo League activists Shuvo and Manik. He claimed that the attackers also took away two mobile phone sets from AL men.
