Movement of goods-laden trucks banned during Eid holidays
Movement of goods-laden trucks through the Daulatdia-Paturia river route will remain prohibited for several days apparently to avoid traffic jam at the terminals during and after Eid holidays.
However, the trucks carrying perishable goods will not come under the purview of the restriction.
The restriction will take effect from today.
The measures aimed at removing traffic jam at the ghats and ensuring smooth journey of home-bound people through the route.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan told this to journalists at Paturia ghat after visiting the Daulatdia and Patuaria ghats yesterday.
The minister said that necessary steps were taken to check all kinds of criminal activities in two ghats.
The minister visited two ghats to see the situation there. He also talked to launch owners and passengers.
He directed local administration, including BIWTC, to take necessary measures so that people could cross the river route smoothly and safely.
