Power hungry people barricaded Panchagarh-Dhaka highway yesterday afternoon for about three hours at Dhakkamara village under Sadar upazila in Panchagarh. During the barricade from 2.00pm to 5.00pm, a large number of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road causing immense sufferings to the inter-district passengers. Villagers told the reporters that power supply to the area (Dakkamara village) remained cut off from Sunday as a transformer went out of order. Thousands of families and business establishments are suffering for lack of power supply, they said. Despite several remainders to power officials everyday, they didn't take effective steps to resume power supply, the villagers alleged. On information, Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Banamali Bhoumick rushed to the spot and assured people of resuming power supply to the area as soon as possible. After the assurance, people withdrew the barricade at about 5.00pm. Contacted, Resident Engineer of Panchagarh PDB Mohammad Tajul Islam told this correspondent that they were trying to restore power supply by replacing the transformer.
