Spl steamer services for Eid
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) has started special steamer services on Dhaka-Barisal-Khulna routes for the homebound passengers on the occasion of Eid for 11-day from September 6.
Gopal Majumder, assistant general manager of Barisal BIWTC, said the corporation has not raised fare on special trips by its vessels. So, the homebound passengers can avail the opportunity of special steamer services by paying normal fare.
Accordingly, passengers of BIWTC vessels on Dhaka-Barisal route have to pay Tk 565 for a first class cabin seat, Tk 355 for a second class cabin seat and Tk 95 for each deck seat in comparison to Tk 700-750 for each first class cabin seat, Tk 1850-2000 for each VVIP cabin seat, Tk 400-450 for sofa and Tk 170-180 for each deck seat in private launch on the same route.
Sheikh Md Nasim, deputy general manager (commercial and passenger service) of BIWTC, said Peddle wheel steamers PS Ostrich, PS Lepcha, PS Mahsud, PS Turn and screw wheel motor vessel MV Shela will carry passengers on Dhaka-Barisal route according to their respective schedules during the period.
BIWTC has also added its renovated screw wheel motor vessel MV Sonargaon to the service. Corporation sources said at least one vessel from Dhaka will run on Dhaka-Barisal route on September 11, 13, 14 while one regular and one or two special steamers will fly the route on other days of the schedule under the special service.
Besides, regular and special sea trucks on eight coastal routes of Barisal, Bhola, Laxmipur, Noakhali districts and coastal ships MV Baro Awlia, MV Abdul Matin and MV Manirul Huq on Hatiya, Sandwip, Chittagong, Bhola, Barisal routes are on regular and Eid special services.
Private Launch Owners' Association has started operating at least 12 triple deck vessels on Dhaka-Barisal-Dhaka routes from September 6, raising fare by 30 to 50 percent.
