Absence song

Who plays the familiar note on the flute
in the middle of the night,
Awakening me with the wildest thoughts?
The mysterious fog-shrouded figure in
the courtyard beckons me . . .
In a trance I tiptoe across the yard;
Hand in hand we walk to the edges
of the rainbow, caressing the clouds
shielding us from the envious world . . .
I skip, I run wildly across the rainbow.
And just when the sky is about to meet
the earth you disappear . . .
I send the fallen autumn leaves to
look for you . . .
Begging the wild winds to scatter them
in search of you . . .
Who can fathom the unknown anguish
of this forlorn heart?
I walk along the desolate river path
With memories of you teaching me
to love music While you yourself
have become distant . . .
Smile wherever you are, just smile;
The pain of parting will be all mine . . .
Quaint euphoria rises in remembrances of you
My futile gaze searches for that fog-shrouded
figure . . . and I weep, waking entwined in my dreams.
You who reside in the distant sky,
Come down in the swaying of the tender
branches . . . Come and wipe away these
tears of separation . . .
I sit, my eyes streaming with revealing tears,
singing the absence song.
I am blessed in this life having you
I pay homage at your doorstep . . .
You will stay, forever, silently enfolded
in my heart . . .
You mysterious fog-shrouded man!
