Sonali Bank to help boost SME
A conference of branch managers of Sonali Bank Limited was held in the port city on Saturday with a call to provide loan to SME and Agro-based industry on easy term. Addressing the conference as the chief guest Sonali Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Md Humayun Kabir stressed providing easy loan to help Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SME) including women entrepreneurs and rural and agro-based industry flourish. He said multiple steps have already been taken to ensure a further client-friendly environment and improve service. Bank directors Simon Sarwar Kamol, Subhash Chandra Singha and Deputy Managing Director Mushtaq Ahmad were the special guests at the conference held at the office of general manager of Agrabad corporate branch in Chittagong. Councillor candidates for June 17 CCC polls underscored the need for coordinated efforts to ensure child rights and stop child labour and oppression on children in their areas. They were addressing a view exchange meeting titled “Councillor candidates' views on protection of child rights” at Chittagong Press Club (CPC) on Tuesday. Bright Bangladesh Forum (BBF), a non-government organisation, arranged the meeting between the ward councillor candidates and children representatives. Bureau Chief of Begali Daily Bhorer Kagoj Omar Kaiser moderated the dialogue while BBF Chief Executive Utpal Barua made the address of welcome. Candidates for ward councillor posts and female councillor posts of West Bakalia, East Bakalia, South Bakalia and Bakshirhat participated in the meeting and answered to the questions of children representatives. The candidates emphasised involvement of different non-government organisations along side the government initiatives to address different children issues. They also pledged to work on different issues of child rights such as child health, education and child labour if they are elected or not. The 9th death anniversary of Kabial Fani Barua was observed here on Tuesday with a call for portraying lives of mass people through songs. Speakers at the anniversary programme held at Maulana Maniruzzaman Islamabadi memorial hall said Kabial Fani Barua won the heart of people through his songs as he could depict the real lives of mass people and their joys and sorrows in his creation. Obashar Sangskritik Goshthi organised the programme with programme organising committee convener Sukumar Shil in the chair. Speakers at a view exchange meeting stressed participation of agriculture experts and researchers to help implement government programmes to develop agriculture sector and ensure food security. The Institution of Agriculturists organised the meeting at the auditorium of Chittagong University of Veterinary and Animal Science (CUVAS) on Sunday. AFM Bahauddin Nasim, chairman of Bangladesh Institution of Agriculturists, in his speech as the chief guest called upon the central leaders of the institution to help solve the problems of agriculturists of this region to develop agriculture through them. Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CWCCI) President Monwara Hakim Ali was elected director of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI). She is the first woman entrepreneur to be elected director in the country's highest trade body from the chamber group. Monwara contested the election from Azad-Jasim panel. She started her business carrier through running Hotel Hawai in Chittagong immediate after the War of Liberation. With the help of her husband Hakim Ali she established private tourism related firm Intraco Tours and Travels Limited. She is also founder of Genetica Bangladesh Limited, Intraco CNG Limited and Butterfly Park under Intraco Group. Monwara is also the founding president of CWCCI. SM Nurul Hoque, former senior vice-president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and first vice-president of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), was also elected a director of FBCCI for the term 2010-2011 & 2011-2012. He was the chairman of CITF 2001 and first CAFAXPO 2003 organised by the CCCI and BGMEA. He was also a director to the Agrani Bank during 2003-2006. Nurul is a leader of Chittagong University Registered Graduate Parishad and the sitting Executive President of Forum for People's Voice. He is the Founder of private sector led Teachers Training College and Laboratory School & College in Chittagong run by Research, Education and Management Academy.
