'Positive change in politics a must for fair journalism'
A positive change is required in the political trend of the country to ensure fair journalism.
Speakers observed this at the opening session of a day-long workshop on "Journalists' Participation in Local Development: Social Responsibility and Professional Ethics" held at Mymensingh Press Club yesterday.
Bangladesh Press Council (BPI) organised the workshop in collaboration with Dainik Jahan, a local daily and Mymensingh Press Club.
BPI chairman Justice Kazi Ebadul Haque chaired the occasion while it was attended by State Minister for Cultural Affairs advocate Promod Mankin MP, as chief guest.
A constructive news may go against any quarter but it should be taken as self-criticism, the speakers said. They urged the journalists to file more stories related to public interest and development. They also suggested for neutral and optimistic journalism for betterment of the country.
Among others, Principal Motiur Rahman, MP, the Bangladesh Observer Editor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Mymensingh municipality mayor Ekramul Haque Titu addressed.
Sixty journalists from Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Tangail, Netrakona and Kishoreganj took part in the workshop.
In the concluding session, information secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury distributed certificates among the participants.
