Two housewives killed allegedly for dowry
A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at Nanahar village in Kalai upazila on Monday night.
The victim was identified as Marzina Akhter Eti, 16, daughter of Abul Hossain, of Kusum Shahor village in Khetlal upazila.
Family sources said Marzina Akhter was married off with Rabiul Islam about eight months ago.
They said as Marzina refused to bring Tk 50,000 dowry from her father, Rabiul became furious and beat her mercilessly, leaving her seriously injured.
She was first rushed to Khetlal upazila health complex and later shifted to Joypurhat Modern Hospital where the attended doctors declared her dead.
Robiul and his parents went into hiding after the incident.
Another report from Manikganj adds: A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry at Uvazani village in Ghior upazila on Tuesday noon.
The deceased was identified as Sabina Akhter, 22, daughter of Shamsur Rahman of Dhulandi village inr Shibalaya upazila.
Family sources said Sabina was married off with Kamal Hossain, a vegetable vendor of the village, one year ago.
Kamal, since his marriage, used to torture Sabina for dowry.
On Tuesday morning he picked up a quarrel with her over the issue and beat her mercilessly.
Later, he informed Sabina's parents that she was ill. But Sabina died on the way to Sadar hospital.
A case was filed in this connection.
