BDR rescues 20 from traffickers on Jessore, Dinajpur borders
Members of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) yesterday and the day before rescued 20 people, including women and children, from Dinajpur and Benapole border areas allegedly while being trafficked to India.
A Benapole correspondent reports: BDR rescued six people from Sadipur border point in Jessore yesterday.
The victims were identified as Salma, 18, Liza, 19, Sumi, 6, Kamal,25, Munir, 26, and Saiful, 30. They hailed from Khalishpur area of Khulna.
Acting on a tip-off that a gang were trafficking the victims to India through the border, BDR personnel conducted a drive and rescued them.
However, sensing presence of the border guards, the criminals managed to flee the scene.
In Dinajpur, fourteen people including seven women and three children were rescued by BDR from Hakimpur border area on Tuesday night, reports our Correspondent.
The rescued people are Mantu Mistri, 35, Kamal Kumar Karati, 15, Babul Hawladar, 28, Amal Hawladar, 23, Jhuma Hawladar 25, Dulu Rani Roy 45, Namita Rani Karati 23, Uzzal Hawladar 23, two-month old Santanu Hawladar, Suvodeep Karati, 25, and Shakhi Rani Dey 26.
They hailed from Bakerganj upazila of Barisal while Keya Rani, 6, Alo Rani, 45, and Gafuna Rani Dey, 55, came from Dakkhin Kutuba village under Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola.
According to Hakimpur police, the rescued persons were produced in a local court which sent them to jail soon after BDR handed them over to police yesterday morning.
BDR sources at Joypurhat-3 Battalion said, acting on a tip-off a BDR team raided a house owned by one Abul Kalam at Nandipur under Hakimpur upazila at around 10:30pm on Tuesday and rescued the victims.
Sensing presence of BDR, trafficker Dulal Chandra Roy and house owner Abul Kalam fled the scene.
The victims informed police that the criminals brought them to border on Tuesday promising to give better jobs in India.
