Lightning kills 8 in C'nawabganj

Lightning killed eight people including six children and injured five others during rain and storm in three upazilas yesterday noon. The diseased are Sufia Khatun,10, daughter of Atabur Rahman of Roadpara village and a student of class four of Charbagdanga Dakhil Madrasa and Mohammad Jasim, 14, son of Lal Mohammad of Bakherali village and student of class six of the same madrasa and Yousuf Ali,8, son of Humayun Kabir of Bagchar village under Sundarpur union of Sadar upazila. Besides, Mozibur Rahman, 35, of Monoharpur village under Monkasha union and Ripon, 12, of Dhorbona village under Nayalabonga union in Shibganj upazila and Shefali, 12, of Naodah Mission area, Abdul Khaleque, 42, of Dhamoli village under Rahanagar union and Wasim,7, of Parbatipur union in Gomostapur upazila were killed. Locals and Hossain Ali, acting Chairman of Charbagdanga union parishad said, lightning struck Sufia at around 12:00 pm in front of their house at Bakherali village. Jasim died at a mango orchard behind their house as he went to collect mango along with other children during storm. Lightning also injured Aliur Rahman,7, at the orchard. Locals said, Armani Khatun,20, and Alori Begum of Chakpara village of the same union were killed on the yard of their house. A woman was also injured. In another incident at Bagchar village of Sundarpur union, Yousuf and his uncle were struck by lightning at their mango orchard at around 12:15 pm. Yusuf died while his uncle Baharul Islam,30, was injured seriously. Baharul is now under treatment at Chapainawabganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital.
