Interns call off strike at Faridpur medical
Interns at Faridpur Medical College and Hospital (FMCH) yesterday withdrew their strike following an assurance given by the hospital authorities to meet their demands.
Dr Guru Das Sikder, superintendent of FMCH, said the interns joined their duties at the hospital at 2:30 pm.
The assurance came from a meeting that held in the office of Superintendent Guru Das Sikder at 10:00am. Dr Khobirul Islam, secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Faridpur unit, ASM Jahangir Chowdhury Titu, vice- principal of Faridpur Medical college, and AL leader Mohtesham Babar were present in the meeting.
Dr Ridoy Ranjan, president of Intern Doctors Association (IDA) Faridpur unit, said they withdrew the strike as authorities assured them of meeting their seven-point demands that include tightening of security at FMCH and punishment to the person who assaulted a female intern at the hospital on Sunday night.
