Man sentenced to death for killing wife
A Panchagarh court yesterday sentenced one person to life term imprisonment for killing his wife.
The court also fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer six more months in jail.
District and Sessions Judge and Judge of the Woman and Children Repression Prevention Special Tribunal Court of Panchagarh Abdus Salek delivered the verdict in a crowded courtroom.
Convict Shahidar Rahman,20, is son of late Shahabuddin of Bakshipara village under Sadar upazila in the district.
According to prosecution, Shahidar locked in an altercation with his wife Pervin Akhter,18, on September 8, 2009.
At one stage, Shahidar strangled her wife after a good beating.
Victim's father Rafiqul Islam of Chaklahat village under Sadar upazila filed a murder case on the same day with Panchagarh police station accusing several people.
After investigation Sub-Inspector (SI) of Panchagarh police station and also Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Din Mohammad submitted charge sheet on October 31 last year.
After examining 15 witnesses and evidence of the case the judge handed down the verdict.
