30 shops, 7 houses gutted
A devastating fire that broke out at Pharmacy Patti in Mathbaria upazila town gutted at least 30 shops early Saturday.
Locals said, the fire broke out at a shop at about 12:30 am and soon engulfed the adjoining 29 shops.
On information, Mathbaria fire fighting unit rushed to the spot and extinguished the flame after three hours of hectic efforts with help of local people.
The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.
The affected shop owners claimed that cash and valuables worth over Tk 2 crore were gutted in the blaze.
In Chapainawabganj, seven houses were gutted at Noyadiari village in Gomostapur upazila on Friday night.
Locals said the fire originated from a burning electric wire that fell on the rooftop of the house of Nazrul of the village at about 8:00pm from a nearby electric pole and soon engulfed the adjacent six houses.
