Two children drown
Two children drowned as they fell in a pond in Kanchua upazila in Chandpur yesterday. The dead were identified as Zahid Hasan,3, and Shanta, 4. Hasan was the son of Abdul Hannan at Kapila Bari village while Shanta was his niece. Villager Jahangir Alam said they recovered the bodies from the pond with the help of fishing net in the afternoon. The boys fell in water at noon while playing near the pond, he said. A pall of gloom descended on the village as the news of their deaths spread. Hundreds of villagers rushed to Hannan's house to see the bodies of the hapless kids.
