Robbers loot 11 houses in Chandpur, N'ganj

Robbers looted 11 houses in Chandpur and Narayanganj on Wednesday. Hasina Begum, 30, and Tafura Begum,70, of Paschim Sakdi area in Sadar upazila of Chandpur were injured by armed gang as five robberies were committed in the district yesterday. Police said, a gang of robbers entered the houses of Mujibor Rahman and his brother Mizanur Rahman at Shaheb Bazar Mridha Bari of Sadar upazila at around 2:30 am. The gang looted Tk 50,000 and over five tolas of gold ornaments from the two houses. At dead of night the robbers also stormed the houses of Tafura and Hasina of Guard Bari in Paschim Sakdi area. They looted Tk 5,000 and a cell phone set from the house of Hasina. Failing to find anything in the house of Tafura, they beat up the old woman. The gang also looted Tk 17,000 and one tola gold from the house of Selim and Tk 10,000 and two tolas of gold ornaments from the house of Masud Rana and two tolas of gold and Tk 1,000 from Khan Bari in Maijer Bari of the area. In Narayanganj, robbers looted valuables from four houses at Zangalia Uttarpara village in Araihazar, according to UNB. They also injured Shah Alam, a businessman of the village. Locals said, 20-25 masked robbers swooped on the house of Shah Alam, took all the house members hostage at gun point and looted Tk 3.50 lakh in cash, 15 tolas of gold ornaments and other goods. Shah Alam was injured in an attack by the gang as he tried to resist them. Later, the criminals attacked houses of three of his tenants --Baten, Mahbub and Jalil - and took away seven and a half tolas of gold ornaments and two cell phone sets. Our Correspondent in Jhenidah adds: A team from Kaliganj police station arrested a ringleader of inter-district robbers yesterday. Arrestee Abul Bashar, 45, is son of late Fazu Bapari of Bahirgachhi Bazar under Kaliganj upazila. Officer-in-charge (OC) AKM Faruk Hossain of Kaliganj police station said, police arrested Bashar from his house at Bahirgachhi. Bashar is wanted in eight cases for robbery and extortion, he said.
