PSTU expels 20 BCL activists temporarily for anarchy

Disciplinary committee of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) has expelled 20 students and fined seven others belonging to BCL for different terms on charge of creating anarchy on the campus. Naser Saleh, Deputy Registrar of PSTU issued the expulsion order on behalf of the disciplinary committee. The committee took the decision at its 8th meeting on Tuesday chaired by vice chancellor Prof Shakhawat Hussain. PSTU sources said, the committee expelled six students for two semesters and 14 for one semester. Those expelled for two semesters are Monjur Rahman Joni (4th semester), Madhob Chandra Shil (7th semester), Niaz Morshed Shaon (6th semester), Arifur Rahman Peyel (3rd semester) of Agriculture faculty, Mazharul Islam Shakil (7th semester) of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) faculty and Khalid Mahmud Khan (7th semester) of Business Adminisstration and Management (BAM) faculty. All of them were also fined Tk 5,000 each. The students who were expelled for one semester are Tanjilur Rahman Khan, (7th semester), Moniruzzaman Himu (7th semester), Rakibul Islam Roni (7th semester), Kawsar Hossain Tarun (7th semester), Mohsin Ul Sayeed Tusher (7th semester), Ramesh Canrda Das (6th semester), Sohag Mir (4th semester), Abu Sayeed Md Hasan (4th semester), Belal Hossain Rajib (4th semester), of Agriculture faculty and Shuvo, (7th semester), Sanjib Sarker Pintu (6th semester), Akbar Ali Joni (4th semester), Ali Marjan (3rd semester) of BAM faculty, Sudhan Chandra Shil (7th semester) of CSE faculty. Besides, seven others fined Tk 5,000 each are Saiful Islam Roni, Zayed Bin Ali Sujon, Shuvo Saha, Bishajit Das Hero of BAM faculty, Sheikh Sabbir Ahmed, Belal Hossain Rajib of Agriculture faculty and Sudhan Chandra Shil (7th semester) of CSE faculty. Contacted, chairman of the disciplinary committee and VC Prof Dr Shakhawat Hussain said the authorities took the decision in the greater interest of the institution. This will help improve law and order to ensure congenial atmosphere on the campus, he added. PSTU sources said, the aforesaid students were involved in factional clashes on the campus in February. On February 9, at least 25 people were injured as rival BCL factions led by Jewel and Shakil locked in a violent clash. Cadres of the two groups attacked Sher-e-Bangla Hall and M Keramot Ali Hall at night ransacking at least 20 rooms. On February 8 at least eight rooms of Shibir students in PSTU were ransacked by the BCL. Over 50 BCL activists attacked Sher-e-Bangla Hall and M Keramot Ali Hall and ransacked Shibir men's rooms following Shibir attack on BCL at Rajshahi University (RU).
