Teacher, policeman among 6 killed in Tangail in 8 days
Six people, including a schoolteacher and a policeman, were murdered in different upazilas of Tangail district in the last eight days.
The body of fish farmer Akbar Ali of Madhupur village under Gopalpur upazila was found on a cropland at Sutibalaka village of the upazila yesterday morning.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy. The body bore marks of stab injury. Police said they are trying to unearth the clue to the murder. No one was arrested as of 6:00pm yesterday.
Delduar police recovered the body of CNG-run autorickshaw driver Lal Miah of Kagmari on Tangail-Nagarpur road in Gomjani area under Delduar upazila on Monday last.
Police said criminals strangled Lal Miah and took away his three-wheeler. Police could not recover the autorickshaw and arrest any of the gang members until yesterday.
On the same day, Ghatail police recovered the body of Abdul Karim of Dhelutia village under the upazila from a place at the same village and arrested three people, suspecting their involvement in the murder.
Jewel, an employee of a fish store in Trishal of Mymen-singh district, was found dead in a forest near Ghatail-Dhalapara road under Ghatil Police Station on Saturday last.
The reason behind the murder is yet to be unear-thed. No one was arrested in connection with the murder as of filing of this report yesterday.
Schoolteacher Yousuf Ali was killed and his daughter Yasmin and son Sharif were injured in an attack by a gang at his Kachuadanga residence in the town on May 7.
Yasmin and Sharif are now undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital. Police arrested three people in connection with the murder.
Mizanur Rahman, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Noyatola police outpost under Romna Police Station in the capital, was found dead beside Dhaka-Tangail highway in Charpara area of Mirzapur on May 4.
When contacted, Tangail Police Superintendent Mizanur Rahman said police and the detectives in a joint drive on Wednesday night arrested three two killers of ASI Mizan and recovered his mobile phone set.
They also seized a car, which was used by the gang during the killing operation, the SP added.
