'Survey must to resolve CHT land disputes'

Chairman of Chittagong Hill Tracts Land Dispute Resolution Commission (CHTLDRC) Justice Khademul Islam Chowdhury yesterday stressed the need for quick land survey to resolve land disputes in the three hill districts. He urged the government to complete land survey as early as possible to resolve land disputes as per the CHT peace accord. Addressing a meeting on the Khagrachhari town hall premises, Justice Khademul said survey is a must to resolve land disputes and ensure rights of the CHT people on their own land. More then 80 percent disputes will be solved within a shortest possible time if the commission gets statistics of total CHT land, the land commission chief said. “Each and every illegal settlement will be removed and legal owners will be re-settled on their own lands," he said expressing his firm determination to resolve land disputes as per the peace accord. Chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Gias Uddin, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Acting Superintendent of Police Md Amir Jafar, Khagrachhari Municipaltiy Mayor Mohammad Anwar Hossen, Khagrachhari Press Club Secretary Azimul Hoque, Dighinala Upazila Nirbahi Officer Moniruzzaman Mia, Mohalchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Safiul Arif and Headman of Baibonchhara Mouza Sapuram Chakma. Some karbaris and headmen were absent in the meeting. The chairman urged them to join the commission's next meeting and sought their cooperation in resolving the land disputes.
