Protests against non-inclusion in MPO list continue
Teachers and staff of a few non-government schools and colleges have observed separate programmes protesting non-inclusion of the institutions in the latest list of Monthly Payment Order (MPO).
Teachers and students of Sharsha Upazila College accompanied by locals put blockade on Benapole-Jessore highway for three hours from 9:00am yesterday demanding immediate inclusion of the college in the MPO list, reports a correspondent from Benapole.
The road blockade caused a long tailback of passenger buses and goods-laden trucks.
The agitators also formed a human chain and held a rally where Sharsha upazila Vice Chairman Asaduzzaman Bablu and college teacher Kamaruzzaman spoke.
The college was established in 2003 and the pass percentage from the college last year was 90 percent but it has not been included in the MPO list also this time, speakers said at the rally.
Tougher programme will be launched if the college is not included in the MPO soon, they said.

In Khulna, teachers of non-MPO educational institutions of Khulna have warned of hunger strike for indefinite period from today to realise their demand for inclusion of the institutions in MPO, reports our staff correspondent.
At a press conference on Monday, the teachers and staff under the banner of Non-MPO Teachers and Employees Oikyo Parishad said they will start the hunger strike after observing a human chain programme from 11:00am to 12 noon at Picture Palace Cinema Hall intersection in Khulna city.
Leaders of the organisation demanded inclusion of all remaining recognised educational institutions under government's Monthly Payment Order (MPO).
"Over 17,000 educational institutions with over seven lakh students are yet to be brought under MPO system although their result in public examinations is satisfactory," said Principal Golam Mahmudunnabi Dollar, president of the oikyo parishad, at the press conference.
Teachers and employees of non-MPO educational institutions are passing days amid hardship as they do not get any financial benefit from the government, he said, adding that the government decision to bring only 1022 educational institutions under MPO is nothing but a farce.
