15 injured as narcotics officials, villagers clash at Benapole
At least 15 people including a deputy director of the Directorate of Narcotics Control were injured in a clash between the directorate officials and villagers over recovery of addictive substance from Bhoberber village yesterday.
Police said, an 18-member team of the directorate raided the house of Mohammad Ali of the village at noon, recovered smuggled phensidyl and arrested Ali.
A clash ensued between the two parties when a group of villagers obstructed the directorate officials.
The villagers snatched Mohammad Ali from the officials and besieged 18 members of the team including deputy director Hafizur Rahman for about one hour.
On information, police rushed to the spot, rescued the officials and brought the situation under control.
In Teknaf of Cox's Bazar, more than 50 people were injured in a clash between the residents of two villages Sunday afternoon over a Boli Khela (a type of wrestling) at a ground west of Sabrang High School.
Of the injured 11 were admitted to Teknaf and Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in critical condition.
News of death of a youth, who was seriously injured in the clash the previous night, triggered the clash.
On Saturday evening 10 people were injured in a clash between the residents of Sikderpara and Modalpara over a trifling matter near the wrestling venue.
Seriously injured Salim Ullah, 25, son of Roshan Ali of Sikderpara was shifted to CMCH from Teknaf Hospital as his condition deteriorated He later died at about 3am.
Police stopped the three-day event following Sunday's clash.
