Hats off to Shahnaz
A bride has refused to marry the bridegroom for demanding dowry.
The incident took place at Ashrafpur village in Sadar upazila in Meherpur district on Sunday afternoon.
Marriage of Shanaz Khatun, 19, daughter of Sarthak Ali of the village was set to be solemnised with Abu Zaman, 30, son of Abdul Latif of Mahajanpur in the same upazila.
The bridal party came to the bride's house and all the formalities were about to be completed.
But at one stage, father of the bridegroom, Abul Latif demanded a motorbike or cash Tk 1.50 lakh as dowry from the bride's family.
Hearing the news, angry Shanaz called the bridegroom and asked him to leave the place immediately she would not marry one who demands dowry.
As her relatives agreed with the girl, the bridal party had to leave empty-handed.
