Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday arrested real estate businessman Moududul Haque, and businessman Abdul Malik, who was accompanying journalist Fateh Osmani on the night of April 18, in connection with the case for murder of the journalist. The arrestees were later handed over to Sylhet Kotwali police. Rab claimed they arrested the two on the basis of evidence of their complicity in the killing of Osmani. They were shown arrested in the murder case and produced in the Judicial Magistrate's Court in the afternoon. The court sent them to jail. Sumon Ahmed, one of the six accused in the case, gave confessional statement before a judicial magistrate under Section 164 on May 5. Sumon said he and his five accomplices--Shah Alam, Quashem, Swapan, Tiger Saddam and Russel--were involved in the killing of Osmani. Fateh Osmani, Sylhet correspondent of Saptahik-2000, and his friend Abdul Malik came under attack by a gang in the city on the night of April 19. Both were stabbed and admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Osmani was later shifted to Apollo Hospital in the capital where he succumbed to his injuries on April 28.
