Wheat, timber recovered
Mongla and Sharankhola coastguards in separate drives on Sunday seized 165 sacks of wheat meant for Open Market Sale (OMS) and 210 cubic feet Sundari timber.
They also seized a trawler from which the goods were recovered. Mongla Coastguard West Zone Operations Officer Lt Lokman Hakim said, acting on a tip off, they raided Mongla Pashur river and seized the trawler carrying the OMS wheat.
The smugglers jumped off the trawler and fled. Coastguard Sharankhola Contingent commander Jahangir Alam said, its members recovered 210 cubic feet Sundari timber from the bank of a pond adjacent to Balir Gola at Puratan Steamer Ghat in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat.
