27 high schools in Lalmonirhat have no headmaster

Twenty-seven secondary schools in different upazilas of Lalmonirhat have been running without headmasters for long, hampering proper education of students of these institutions Local sources said the teachers working as acting headmasters are mostly inefficient and as a result, they cannot properly carry out their administrative works. The posts of headmaster lie vacant in five schools each in Lalmonirhat sadar and Aditmari upazilas, four in Kaliganj, seven in Hatibandha, and six in Patgram upazilas, sources at the district education office said. Most of the acting headmasters lack knowledge about administrative work, as they are ignorant of the rules and regulations of the education board, alleged some teachers of different schools. General teachers of these schools cannot function properly as they often face harassment by the acting headmasters on false reasons, an aggrieved teacher said. He alleged that a good number of acting headmasters are involved in financial irregularities in collusion with the managing committees. An assistant teacher of Gobda High School in Aditmari upazila, on condition of anonymity, said they cannot open mouth against the misdeed of their acting headmaster fearing unnecessary harassment. Contacted, Lalmonirhat District Education Officer Alauddin Al Azad said he is putting pressure on all the managing committees of the schools to immediately appoint headmasters. "I hope the managing committees will appoint headmasters at their schools as early as possible," the education officer said.
