Extortionists beat up AL leader
Extortionists beat up an AL leader on Wednesday night as he refused to give them Tk 20,000 from illegal toll collected from hawkers and shopkeepers in a cinema hall area under Ramgarh upazila.
Police said a gang of 20 swooped on Mohammad Taher, a member of the executive body of Ramgarh union Awami League, near the cinema at around 10:00pm, leaving him critically injured.
Meanwhile, unidentified criminals set fire to the house of Ramgarh Upazila Parishad Chairman Belayet Hossain Bhuiyan early yesterday.
Belayet Hossain, also the president of Ramgarh Upazila BNP, blamed local Chhatra League cadres for the arson attack.
