AL rivals clash over tender, two injured

Two local leaders of Awami League's associate bodies were injured and the upazila chairman's office was vandalised during a clash between two rival groups allegedly over tender manipultion at Durgapur upazila headquarters yesterday. The injured are Abdul Latif, former president of upazila Sainik League, and Salimuddin, general secretary of upazila Chhatra League. They were admitted to Durgapur Upazila Health Complex. The trouble began at around 12:30pm when upazila chairman Abdul Mazid's men, equipped with sticks and rods, attacked the Latif group in front of Shinga Girls' School as a sequel to Wednesday's conflict between the two sides over tender manipulation. Both the groups chased each other and hurled brickbats during the clash that continued for an hour. Later, Latif's men ransacked the office of Durgapur Upazila Chairman Abdul Mazid.
