UPDF man shot dead
A leader of Ganotantrik Jubo Forum (GJF), a newly formed associate organisation of anti-peace United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was shot dead allegedly by the armed members of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) at Labourpara under Jurachhari upazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Prashanta Chakma,35, son of Prem Kumar Chakma of village Labourpara under Jurachhari upazila. He was organising secretary of GJF Jurachhari unit.
Quoting locals police said an armed gang sprayed bullets on Prashanta when he was taking meal at his house, leaving him dead on the spot.
Abu Ali Md. Sazzad Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Jurachhari upazila, yesterday confirmed the incident, saying police recovered the body and sent it to Rangamati General Hospital for autopsy.
Police later handed over the body to the victim's relatives.
Shantideb Chakma, coordinator of UPDF, Rangamati unit, Monday blamed PCJSS for the killing and demanded arrest and exemplary punishment to the culprits.
Sajib Chakma, assistant publicity secretary of PCJSS central committee, however denied the allegation saying Prashanta died because of their internal conflict.
In Cox's Bazar, BDR on Sunday morning arrested six people at Leda point on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf highway and recovered a magazine of nine mm submachine gun, seven bullets and banned stimulant Yaba tablets.
The members of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) raided a passenger chair coach named N Alam of Naf Special Service Paribahan at 9.30am and recovered the arms, bullets and tablets in 70 packets from under the seats.
They also arrested six on change of smuggling, according to a correspondent.
