Pabna BCL goes on rampage
BCL Pabna district unit activists went on the rampage yesterday afternoon following a rumour that the new district committee would be formed through selection.
They ransacked shops at Abdul Hamid Road in the town and damaged at least 10 vehicles.
The first session of the district BCL council was held at Doel Community Center in the morning with outgoing president Mostafizur Rahman Sweet in the chair.
State Minister for Home advocate Samsul Haque Tuku spoke as the chief guest while BCL central committee President Mahmud Hassan Ripon and General Secretary Hayder Chowdhury Ratan inaugurated the council.
The election to the district unit was due to be held in the second session through election. As the central BCL leaders did not attend the second session, a rumour spread that the committee would be formed through selection.
Following the rumour, the BCL men brought out a procession demanding formation of the new district committee through election. They also went on the rampage, damaging shops and vehicles. However, no committee of the BCL district unit was formed as of 8:00pm yesterday.
