JCD factions clash ahead of dist confce: 5 injured
At least five people were injured in Joypurhat as two factions of local Chhatra Dal (JCD) unit clashed ahead of a district conference in Joypurhat yesterday.
The injured were identified as Shohel Biswas, 25, Badal Sarker 30 and Bazlur Rahman Sagar 28.
Sources said a faction of Joypurhat Chhatra Dal organised its district conference here at local zila parisad yesterday noon. The group is backed by Md. Mozahar Ali Prodhan, a lawmaker of Joypurhat-1 constituency.
Md. Golzar Hossain, president of the faction presided the meeting.
The clashes erupted as the other faction of Chhatra Dal backed by engineer Golam Mostafa, a lawmaker of Joypurhat-2 constituency, tried to enter to the programme venue in a procession.
Witnesses said that the faction loyal to Mozahar Ali Prodhan attacked the procession with sticks and brickbats as the procession reached Joypurhat Government Girls High School point. Within moments the area turned into a battlefield with chase and counter chase by the members of the two rival factions leaving at least five people injured.
The incident forced the roadside traders to keep their shutters down for at least two hours.
Later police and Rab rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
However, the district conference was held after some time attended by both the factions.
