43 sued on war crime charges in 3 districts

Forty-three people were sued yesterday, on Monday and Sunday on charge of killing three people during the Liberation War in 1971 in Rajshahi, Bagerhat and Jessore. Twenty-five people, 15 of them unidentified, were sued on Monday on charge of killing a freedom fighter in Bagerhat in 1971. The case was filed with the court of Judicial Magistrate Md Elias Rahman, reports our staff correspondent in Khulna. Abdul Mannan Sheikh of Panbaria village under Kachua upazila of Bagerhat district filed the petition case and the court ordered the OC of Kachua police station to record the case after investigation. The complainant stated in his petition case that the accused killed his maternal uncle Mansur Ali Fakir on July 15 in 1971.The accused, who were cohorts of Pakistan occupation forces, kidnapped him at gun point from his house at noon on the day. Later, they shot him dead after severe physical torture near a culvert at Daiboggakati village under the same upazila. The accused also set his house on fire after looting all personal belongings, the complainant stated in his case. Ten of the accused named in the case are Idris Molla,65, Rustam Molla,63, Afsar Didar,76, Mokser Didar,74, Bazlur Rahman Didar, 69, Imam Hossain Khokon,70, Karim Didar,69, Sayed Sheikh,64, Akram Khan,70, and Ashraf Khan,74. In Jessore, a murder case was recorded on Sunday with Keshabpur police station against 15 people on charge of killing Jahan Ali, an organiser of Liberation War in Jessore after 11 months of investigation, writes a correspondent. Police said, Abdul Mannan, brother of slain Jahan Ali filed a complaint accusing 18 people with the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate on May 17, 2009. The court ordered the officer-in-charge of Keshabpur police station to take necessary steps after investigation into the matter. After 11 months police recorded the complaint as a murder case accusing 15 as three died during the investigation period. The accused are Abdul Bari Wadud, Hasim Ali Fakir, Ansar Ali Fakir, Wazid Sardar, Kasmot Ali Fakir, Mokshed Sardar, Ansar Mollah, Azhar Ali Gazi, Khokon Sheikh, Ansar Ali, Mazid Sheikh and Bari Goldar of Agarhati village, Shamser Sheikh and Samad Sheikh of Verchi village and Abdul Sardar of Sannashgachha village under the upazila. According to the case, Jahan Ali, son of Keramot Ali of Sarutia village under Keshabpur upazila of Jessore, was a local organiser of liberation war. He was abducted and shot dead by a group of 'rajakers' led by Shamser Sheikh of Verchi village on September 30, 1971. Our Staff Correspondent in Rajshahi adds: Bagmara police yesterday recorded a case against three people of Kushalpur village for murdering Enayetullah of the same area during the Liberation War in 1971. Enayetullah's son-in-law Safayetullah lodged a complaint with a Rajshahi court on April 23. Following the court's order, local police at Bagmara recorded the case after primary investigation. The plaintiff alleged in the case that the accused Lahar Ali Shah, Nesar Ali and Anwara Begum were members and supporters of the then Peace Committee of the area in 1971 and they helped the Pakistani occupation forces in crimes. The accused called Enayetullah out of his house on December 2 in 1971, killed him and dumped his body at a place in the village. According to police, with this case, the number of such cases in Rajshahi stood at 17.
