Inconsistency in Wealth Statement
ACC sues ex-lawmaker
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Patuakhali filed a case against Shahidul Alam Talukder, former lawmaker for Patuakhali-2 (Baufal) allegedly for hiding information regarding assets worth Tk 21, 60, 615 in his wealth statement.
The statement was submitted on January 21 in 2009 to Patuakhali ACC office.
Md Lutfor Rahman, Assistant Director (AD) of Patuakhali ACC filed the case with Patuakhali police station on April 25 under Section 26(2) and 27(1) of ACC law of 2004.
According to the case, Shahidul Alam Talukder was elected lawmaker for Patuakhali-2 (Baufal) constituency in 2001 with BNP ticket.
After his tenure from October 9, 2001 to June 30, 2006 ACC sent a notice to him on January 13, 2009 to submit his wealth statement. Shahidul submitted his statement of assets to ACC on January 21 in 2009. The statement also gave details of the wealth of his wife Salma Alam Lily and son Raian Akash showing the total amount at Tk 1, 62, 68,248 including liabilities.
But when Lutfor Rahman, AD of ACC investigated the matter he found 'inconsistency' in the statement.
During the caretaker government, Shahidul was arrested by the joint forces on charge of keeping illegal arms in his house.
Later he was jailed by a Patuakhali court for keeping a revolver and bullets.
In 2008, got bail from the High Court and took part in JS polls but was defeated to AL candidate ASM Feroz.
