PUST students stage road blockade
The students of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) blocked highway in front of the university campus yesterday noon protesting increase of session fees.
They also demanded all the facilities that a student normally gets in other universities.
Sources said the PUST recently increased the session fees to Tk 4,550 from previous Tk 4000. The students yesterday demanded cut in additional session fees as well as fixing it at Tk 2,500.
The students began their demonstration on the campus and later came out to put up barricade on the highway in front of the university.
They blocked the Dhaka-Pabna highway at 1 pm and continued it for over one hour. Several hundred vehicles on both sides of the road got stranded causing immense sufferings to the people.
Later PUST vice chancellor Dr Mozaffar Ahmed explained the reasons behind the fee hike. Giving a list of present facilities he assured the students of considering their demands.
“We need some more time to meet all the demands”, he said.
