Allegations of Anti-Party Activities in Patuakhali-3
Dist AL for action against Roni
Patuakhali district unit of Awami League (AL) has decided to send its recommendation to the central committee for taking organisational action against Golam Mawla Roni, lawmaker from Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa-Dashmina), for his alleged anti-party activities.
An emergency meeting presided over by district AL Senior Vice President Ismail Hossain Mridha at the district AL office on Sunday night took the decision, said a district AL leader who was present at the meeting.
Roni was absent from the meeting although he was invited there as a member of the district committee, meeting sources said.
The meeting discussed written allegations against Golam Mawla Roni, which were submitted by Galachipa upazila unit AL President Harun-or-Rashid, also the chairman of upazila parishad, and upazila AL Secretary Golam Mostafa Tito.
Earlier on April 8, an extended meeting of district AL held at Patuakhali Circuit House auditorium formed a four-member probe committee headed by district AL President advocate Shahjahan Mia, also state minister for religious affairs, to probe the allegations against Roni.
Six central leaders were present at the meeting.
Other members of the probe committee are ASM Feroz, whip of the Jatiya Sangsad and lawmaker from Patuakhali-2 (Baufal), Mahbubur Rahman Talukder, lawmaker from Patuakhali-4 (Kalapara), also state minister for water resources ministry, and Khan Mosharraf Hossain, secretary of district AL.
The probe body had reached a unanimous opinion about taking organisational action against Roni, sources said.
At the meeting on Sunday night, AL leaders criticised Roni for his absence in the public meeting organised by district unit AL at Patuakhali town on April 8.
According to the containing allegations against lawmaker Golam Mawla Roni, which was submitted by Galachipa unit AL president Harun-or-Rashid, and Secretary Golam Mostafa Tito, Roni's men are harassing party men by filling false cases and torturing them in different ways.
Over 30 false cases were filed against party men at Roni's instructions, goes the statement.
Roni instigated criminals to launch an attack on upazila AL leader Harun-or-Rashid and Galachipa municipality mayor Abdul Ohab Khalifa, it said.
On the National Mourning Day on August 15, Roni did not place wreath on Bangabandhu's portrait while no flags were raised at his local residence on that day, it added.
The two leaders of Gapalachipa AL also brought allegation of bribery from different development works including Test Relief and Food for Work programmes, appointment and transfer of government officials and employees in different offices, special projects on rehabilitation of Sidr and Aila victims in the area with the help of his brother-in-law Makbul who was a BNP leader during last BNP-led four-party alliance government.
Besides, Roni ignores the party men in all the activities, the upazila AL leaders said.
