Police arrested two more Jatiyatabdi Chhatra Dal (JCD) men in the city's Charadighir Par area on Thursday night in connection with the killing of Prof Harun-ur-Rashid. The arrestees are Ataul Gani Umon, 30, an activist of JCD district unit, and Dulal Miah, 23, organising secretary of JCD ward no 16 unit. Police said they arrested the two JCD men on the basis of a statement made by JCD cadre Jamal Ahmed during his remand. Police produced them in the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on Friday, seeking a seven-day remand. The court will hear the remand prayer today. JCD cadre Jamal was arrested as a suspect in the murder case at his house at Bonkalapara in the city on Tuesday night and shown arrested the following day. Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Amir Uddin granted a four-day remand for Jamal Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile, Jamal's mother Hosne Ara Begum has alleged that law enforcers are torturing her son on remand to extract confession. She brought the allegation at a press conference at Sylhet Press Club yesterday. In a written statement, Hosne Ara said her son was 'falsely' implicated in Prof Harun murder case. Hosne Ara claimed that Jamal was in a procession on the Madan Mohan College campus at the time of incident. “After the killing of SAMS Kibria in 2005, police picked up my son from Sylhet and released him after five days. After a week, he was again arrested in an arms case, which was later proved baseless in the court, Jamal's mother said, adding that she demanded fair treatment of her son.
