RU BCL activists stab four Shibir men, beat another

Chhatra League (BCL) activists severely stabbed four Shibir cadres, allegedly involved in Feb 9 violence, on the campus yesterday and handed them over to the law enforcers. The Shibir cadres are Abdus Salam, a former student of Arabic department of the university, Abu Hanif and Rikat, all hailing from Pabna district and Abul Bashar, a first year student of Arabic department. Besides, Abdul Motin, a third year student of Islami Studies department was severely beaten up on Monday. Witnesses said, a group of BCL activists led by Masud hit Salam, Hanif and Rikat with iron rods and stabbed them in front Begum Rokeya Hall yesterday noon. Sources said, they had come from Pabna district a few days ago to meet a female relative who is a resident student of the hall. BCL activists also hurled abuses at the female student as she protested the attack, witnesses said. Later, BCL leaders and activists handed over the three to the Motihar police. Besides, the BCL men severely stabbed Abul Basher suspecting him a Shibir cadre on Tukitaki premises at around 11:30am yesterday and handed him over to the law enforcers. Earlier, the BCL activists of Bangabandhu Hall unit caught Abul Motin from the hall gate and severely beat him with sticks Monday night. He was also handed over to police. Contacted, Tofazzel Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Motihar police station told this correspondent that they will take legal steps against the arrestees after quizzing and investigation.
